Twelve years ago a company began by the name of A.I.M.S. (Athletic Injury Management Services). There was a growing market that had special on site medical needs. As time continued A.I.M.S. decided to branch out into the market place by becoming not only an Athletic Therapy service but a non-emergency ambulance service as well. The medical market continued to open more opportunities for A.I.M.S. At the same time Toronto was booming with more and more movie and television productions each year and they were also in need of on site medical attention. However it did not stop there, A.I.M.S. also cornered the private medical market by becoming the on site medical service of choice for the widespread equestrian circuit.

A few years later, in 1997, as business was progressing A.I.M.S. was purchased by Laidlaw Inc. becoming who we are today - Canadian Medical Response.

Since the sale John Zimmer - General Manager, made a number of significant changes beginning with a complete overhaul of CMR's basic business strategy, coupled with complete overhauls in operations and strategic human resource management. The strategy was simple - focused differentiation and least (versus lowest) cost. We completed our first 3-year business plan August 31st 2001. Bottom line, our business grew 297%. CMR strengthened its market position to become benchmarks in both medical standby and non emergency patient transfers.

Modeling itself after an EMS service CMR invited the Ministry of Health to review our operations during the provincial certification process in the summer of 2000. CMR passed with flying colours - including a voluntary and successful audit of our Policy and Procedures Manual (which is based on the most respected EMS ambulance service Manual in Ontario). Foreseeing the changes to the Ambulance Act and hospital restructuring, CMR has positioned itself well in advance of its competition.

In September 2000, Laidlaw announced it was getting out of Healthcare in Canada. After careful selection, CMR was sold to a group of business managers who share similar goals and standards.

CMR utilizes Type II and III ambulances, primarily Ford diesel's that are stocked to Ministry of Health BLS specifications. The vehicles are maintained on a unique V-Trac(R) system - a software system that monitors required vehicle maintenance and calls vehicles in for service by mileage and/or time, eliminating the need for manual tracking.

CMR is a warm, relaxed, family oriented environment with a huge responsibility - The Community. Since we have such a responsibility we have gone to great lengths to become certified with both Symptom Relief and Defibrillation under a base hospital for all our medical activities.

CMR has become a "One-Stop-Shopping" company for Medical Services. Gone are the days when a TV or movie production has to call around to different companies asking for a nurse, to rent equipment or a picture vehicle. CMR is it, we have it all and if we don't have it we'll get it for you within a 24 hour period. Versatility is the key in todays "I need it yesterday" world and CMR has discovered the formula for success.
